Dr. Karkkainen graduated in the top of his class at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University. He then completed a residency in general surgery at the Michigan Capital Medical Center.
Dr. Karkkainen says the ability to achieve immediate results for patients is what he likes most about surgery. He has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery.
"My style of practice is very patient-centered," he explains. "I believe in treating the body as a whole."
Dr. Karkkainen was a four-year letter winner in college football and shares an interest in all sports with his wife, who is a special education teacher, and their three children.
